Definition of DX53D galvanized steel coil

DX53D is a grade of cold-rolled low-carbon steel coil  and strip, conforming to the EN 10346 (European standard) or GB/T 2518 (Chinese standard, corresponding to the grade DC53D).

  • “D” stands for cold-rolled steel.
  • “X” (or C) represents the base material type.
  • “53” represents the stamping grade (higher numbers indicate better stamping performance).
  • The final “D” indicates the surface quality grade (used for deep drawing applications requiring high surface finish).

DX53D galvanized steel coil refers to steel products with a zinc coating applied to the surface of the DX53D cold-rolled base material via a hot-dip galvanizing process. This zinc layer isolates the steel from air, providing corrosion protection while maintaining the base material’s high formability.

Mechanical Properties

Tensile strength (σb) 310-450 MPa, yield strength (σs) ≤280 MPa, elongation (A80mm) ≥34%, high plasticity and low yield strength, suitable for complex deep drawing.

Corrosion Resistance

The zinc layer preferentially corrodes, forming a protective mechanism that prevents rusting. It can withstand long-term use in normal atmosphere and slightly humid environments, with a lifespan 3-5 times longer than ordinary cold-rolled steel.

Surface Properties

The surface is clean and scratch-free, and supports a variety of surface finishes, including embossing, passivation, and fingerprint resistance. It can be used directly or undergo secondary processing such as painting or lamination. The hot-dip galvanized layer resists peeling during bending and stamping.

Formability

“Grade 53” is a deep-drawing grade that can withstand complex processes such as deep drawing and bulging, making it a typical example of “easy-to-form” galvanized steel.

Select the zinc layer thickness according to the application

  • Indoor environments: Choose a zinc coating thickness of 40-80g/m².
  • Architectural applications: For general atmospheric environments, a zinc coating thickness of 60-120g/m² is recommended. For acid rain and coastal areas with high salinity, a zinc coating thickness of 180-275g/m² is recommended.
  • Automotive industry: For vehicle exterior panels, 120-180g/m²; for chassis components, 180-275g/m².
  • Home appliance industry: For appliance exteriors, 40-100g/m². For humid environments, such as washing machine drums, 120-180g/m² is recommended.
  • Industrial equipment and machinery: For general industrial environments, 80-120g/m² is recommended. For industrial environments with severe corrosion, such as chemical plants, a zinc coating thickness of 180-275g/m² is recommended.
  • Other applications: For fencing and guardrails, 80-120g/m² is sufficient. For solar panel structures, a zinc coating thickness of 60-180g/m² is recommended.
